While part of Pitch Yarn of Matter, a band formed in 1992 with Gallo, Mauricio XV sought to explore timeless themes that have resonated throughout human history. This pursuit of ageless concepts inspired the band's name, derived from the word "eternal."
In April 1994, etern released a demo tape featuring the tracks: Ways to Nowhere (later known as Ways), Leaving Again, Effective Anthology (later known as Even the Purity), Lost in Time, Another Day, and Experience (later known as Sometimes).
In June 1994, the demo track Ways to Nowhere was featured as the opening session on ZenZor, a radio program created by Eneas Neto on FM 97. The following month, etern performed live at SubZone Columbia in Sao Paulo, as a opening act for the band Volv Uncion. For this performance, XV was joined by Marcelo Martin (vocals and keyboards) and Fabio Amato (electronic percussion).
In 1997, the band released two singles: Mystery Girl and One of Them (featuring Renata Franco and Gallo). They also contributed to a New Order tribute compilation, Essence, released by Cri Du Chat Disques and Eldorado and The The Records, performing Touched by the Hand of God.
After a hiatus of over 20 years, etern returned with the album Gratitude, released in December 2018 by Wave Records and distributed by NOVA MD GmbH. The album features 16 tracks, including the band's best material and a few previously unreleased songs from Pitch Yarn of Matter.
In late 2019, Etern released three remix singles by renowned Brazilian synth-pop bands: High (Technique Remix) by Technique, Senseless (P.Y.M. Sense Remix) by Pitch Yarn of Matter, and Gratitude (Lore Ride Remix) by Lore.
In March 2020, the track High (Technique Remix) was included in the compilation Isolated, released by Wave Records and distributed by NOVA MD GmbH.
In December 2022, the band appeared on the Essence 2 compilation, released by Cri Du Chat Disques, with another tribute to New Order, performing Love Will Tear Us Apart Again.
In November 2023, etern celebrated Wave Records' 17th anniversary with a live performance at Madame Underground Club in São Paulo, sharing the stage with Ultra Sunn and NNHMN.
